The short version
DuoSelfie does not collect, store or share personal data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and there is no DuoSelfie server for your photos or data to be sent to.
Camera and photos
The camera phone uses its camera to take photos and to stream a live preview to the other phone. The preview goes directly from one phone to the other and is not recorded.
Photos are saved only to the camera phone's photo library (on Android, in a DuoSelfie album). The photo viewer receives a small copy of each photo, shows it for a few seconds and does not save it.
Connecting the two phones
DuoSelfie finds the other phone over your local network, peer-to-peer Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and connects to it directly. Each phone's name is shown on the other so you can tell phones apart.
While no viewer is connected, the camera looks for the viewer's pairing code in its viewfinder. This happens on the phone and nothing is recorded.
Once two phones have connected, they remember each other so they can reconnect on their own. Each phone keeps the other's name, a random ID and a pairing key, stored only on the phone (in the Keychain on iPhone, in the app's private storage on Android). You can forget a paired phone at any time in the app.
Between two Android phones, DuoSelfie uses Nearby Connections, which is part of Google Play services on the phone and covered by Google's privacy policy.
Permissions
- Camera: to take photos and show the live preview.
- Photos, on iPhone: to add the photos you take to your library. DuoSelfie asks only to add photos, not to read the library.
- Local network, nearby devices and Bluetooth: to find and connect to the other phone.
- Location, on Android 12 only: Android requires it for nearby connections. DuoSelfie does not use or record your location.
